Illocutionary Competence in Irony Comprehension: Insights from Empirical Studies on ASD

Abstract

W niniejszym artykule przedstawiamy pragmatyczną analizę wypowiedzi wykorzystanych w badaniach empirycznych dotyczących rozumienia ironii u osób z zaburzeniami ze spektrum autyzmu (ASD). Skupiamy się na trzech wybranych badaniach, które analizują rozumienie ironicznych komplementów i krytyki. Nasza główna teza zakłada, że interpretacja tych wypowiedzi wymaga znacznej kompetencji illokucyjnej, która – wraz ze zdolnością do przypisywania innym osobom stanów mentalnych (mindreading) – jest istotnym komponentem poznania społecznego i interakcji międzyludzkich. Po przeanalizowaniu sposobów formułowania oraz rozumienia różnych rodzajów komplementów i krytyki argumentujemy, że ironia pełni funkcję illokucyjnej negacji, przekształcając siłę wypowiedzi, jaką miałaby ona w ujęciu dosłownym, w jej przeciwieństwo. Nasza główna konkluzja podkreśla znaczenie interpretowania wyników badań empirycznych nad rozumieniem ironii z uwzględnieniem możliwych różnic w zakresie kompetencji illokucyjnej uczestników oraz ich zdolności do rozpoznawania funkcji echoicznej i metaillokucyjnej ironii.
