Абстракт

This article examines Richard FitzRalph’s treatment of the human mind in his Lectura on the Sentences, focusing on his treatment of Augustinian and Aristotelian conceptions of cognition and volition. By situating FitzRalph within the broader scholastic debates of the early fourteenth century, with Neo-Augustinianism in particular, it argues that his analysis represents both a careful exegesis of Augustine’s De Trinitate and an engagement with the Aristotelian hylomorphic framework. The study highlights FitzRalph’s nuanced approach to the distinctness of memory, intellect, and will, his treatment of species in memory, and his effort to secure a middle path between identity and distinction theories of the soul’s powers.
