Abstrakt
An attempt to identify hazards of fish farms development due to pests living on the farm territories has been performed. The study was realized using interview and inquiry methods carried out among holders of fish farms and Polish Fishing Guard workers. In respondents’ opinion pests are one of the main hazards in fish breeding casing huge losses in fish population and farm infrastructure. Species generating the highest losses (cormorant, heron and otter) are under low protection, nevertheless their population should be controlled. Respondents indicated conflict between protection of animals being pests in fish production and its profitability. Majority of the respondents stressed necessity to preparing new law-and-economic solutions recompensing losses generated in fish production by pests.
