The monograph examines and compares the concept of religious education in the Roman Catholic Church in the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia. This comparison is justified by the significant similarities among the three countries, rooted primarily in their shared post- World War II history, their experience under communism and their subsequent paths to freedom. At the same time, it recognises the distinctive features that shape the unique experiences of each country. The study begins by outlining the historical circumstances of religious education, shaped by the turbulent course of history in this part of Europe. It then turns to the present state of religious education, noting the common feature of religious instruction in schools across the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia. While this presence is shared, the practical and curricular approaches – as well as the trends in how religious instruction is evolving – differ both in terms of state policies and the programmes developed by the Church. The analysis also considers the condition of parish catechesis, acknowledging that religious instruction in schools is only one – albeit significant – component of the religious education framework. Finally, the authors to look to the future, reflecting on the trends and challenges facing religious education. This perspective, while respecting the differences and experiences of the countries analysed, is increasingly influenced by globalisation and similar societal shifts not only within these nations across Europe as a whole. A mutual exchange of experiences, ideas, and inspiration can be enriching for all parties and help avoid repeating mistakes often made unintentionally. There remains a place for denominational religious education within the European education system, but such education must continually assess and respond to the ‘signs of the times’ and the real needs of both the Churches that provide it, the states that shape educational policy and the students seeking answers to enduring and timeless questions.
Edukacja religijna w Polsce, Czechach i Słowacji: przeszłość, teraźniejszość i przyszłość Autorzy niniejszej monografii skoncentrowali się na porównaniu koncepcji edukacji religijnej Kościoła rzymskokatolickiego w Czechach, Polsce i na Słowacji. Jest to próba zasadna ze względu na występujące podobieństwa, głównie związane z wspólną historią po II wojnie światowej, doświadczeniem komunizmu i drogi do wolności, ale i różnice stanowiące o niepowtarzalnym doświadczeniu każdego z badanych krajów. Pierwszym etapem jest wskazanie na uwarunkowania historyczne edukacji religijnej, związane z burzliwymi meandrami historii w tej części Europy. Kolejny etap to ukazanie teraźniejszości edukacji religijnej, z podstawowym elementem wspólnym, jakim jest obecność lekcji religii w czeskich, polskich i słowackich szkołach. Wspólna jest obecność, jednak przyjęte rozwiązania praktyczne i programowe, a także tendencje przemian związanych z tą obecnością są już różne – zarówno z perspektywy dokumentów państwowych, jak i co do programowania nauczania religii przez stronę kościelną. Całości dopełniają uwarunkowania katechezy parafialnej, bo przecież nauczanie religii w szkole jest tylko jednym, choć znaczącym, elementem edukacji religijnej. Na końcu autorzy podjęli próbę spojrzenia w przyszłość i namysł nad tendencjami i wyzwaniami stojącymi przed edukacją religijną. Owa perspektywa, szanując odrębność i doświadczenia w analizowanych krajach, wydaje się być coraz bardziej wspólna, chociażby ze względu na procesy globalizacyjne i sekularyzacyjne, podobne nie tylko w tych krajach, ale i w całej Europie. Wzajemna wymiana doświadczeń, a także pomysłów i inspiracji może ubogacić pozostałych, a także uchronić innych przed popełnionymi, często nieświadomie, błędami. W systemie edukacji europejskiej niezmiennie jest przestrzeń na wyznaniowe nauczanie religii, jednak nauczanie to również musi ewaluować i odpowiadać na „znaki czasu” i realne potrzeby zarówno kościołów, które je prowadzą, państwa, które profiluje kształt działań edukacyjnych, jak i uczniów, którzy poszukują odpowiedzi na niezmienne i ponadczasowe pytania.
