Abstrakt
Laments into Romanian by Passionaria Stoicescu and Constantin Geambașu in order to identify and determine the proportion of neological lexical elements in this translation, along with an attempt to justify them or propose possible autochthonous variants. In this context, the terms autochthonism and neologism refer, respectively, to Romanian words inherited from Latin or borrowed before the period of re-Romanisation (mainly from Slavic), perceived as native words, and words borrowed during the period of re-Romanisation (from Latin, French and Italian), perceived as a newer lexical layer. The translation is dominated by autochthonisms, which accurately reflect the 16th-century character of Kochanowski’s poetry, but it also contains neologisms, especially when they sound more natural than their „autochthonous” equivalents or are more appropriate for achieving a specific effect (e.g. rhymes).
