Abstract

12th Podolian Lancers Regiment. Daily Orders of the Command Squadron
From July 3, 1945 – January 1, 1946

The presented source is part of the legacy of the command squadron from the period after the end of hostilities in 1945. It is in the collection of the Museum im. priest Dr. Władysława Łęgi in Grudziądz. It covers the period from July 3, 1945 to January 1, 1946. It illustrates the period of transformation in the Regiment related to the attempt to disband Polish formations in Western Europe. These are changes in the composition of the Regiment, uniforms, training, and dilemmas related to making decisions about the future – at home or abroad. Finally, the period of dislocation of the Regiment (Cingoli, Jesi), which finally found its last staging in Shobden in England. The mentioned Book of Daily Orders of the Command Squadron of the 12th Podolian Lancers Regiment exists only in manuscript. It contains information that is difficult to overestimate about everyday life, personnel, educational problems, life abroad – relations with the local community, making difficult decisions facing the soldiers of this Regiment. It takes place on the scale of one squadron and shows the everyday life of both staff and rank-and-file soldiers, whose fate we learn about mainly through the prism of collective studies. It is a supplement to the printed and manuscript diaries of combat operations and daily orders of the Regiment.
