Abstract

Mixed methods research in economic and management sciences. A parallel approach

The concept of mixed methods research implies a plurality of research methods, making it possible to combine quantitative and qualitative approaches to the design and implementation of the research process. This enables the integration of both approaches in the formulation of research questions and methods, data collection methods, data analysis and inference within a single case study. The distinguishing and differentiating feature of mixed methods research from multiple methods research is the integration occurring virtually throughout the research process. Such an approach should result in a greater opportunity for exploration and exploration of the phenomena under investigation than when only one method is used. Mixed methods research designs (e.g. the parallel approach) should be seen as a supportive framework, facilitating the organisation of the numerous methodological decisions that need to be made at the various stages of data collection, analysis and evaluation of the quality of the research. The authors, in preparing the monograph, set out to answer the question: What should be the scope of activities, decisions in the case of designing and implementing a mixed methods research study using the parallel approach? A consequence of this direction of the literature review is the adopted layout of the work corresponding to the different stages of the research process.
