Abstract

Various fields of science are trying to examine and analyze what the anthropological problems of contemporary people are. Scientists do this within the framework of, among others, sociology, psychology, and theology. The research presents a multitude of answers and indications, because scientists emphasize different aspects of the problem being studied. In order to check whether the reflection of different people can lead to similar conclusions, an analysis of the work of two people from completely different parts of the world and worldview was carried out. The question arises in this field, can the Swedish director Roy Andersson and Pope Francis of Argentine origin meet not in person, but in a joint reflection on the world? It turns out that they can. Both authors had a time of isolation and reflection in their lives, which resulted in works very rich in specific indications. In the case of Roy Andersson, these are films called the "trilogy about being human", i.e. Songs from the second floor (2000), To you, man (2007), and Gołąb siadł na granici i mysł o istnieniu (The Dove Sat on a Branch and Reflects on Existence) (2015). As for Pope Francis, it is the apostolic exhortation Evangelii gaudium On the proclamation of the Gospel in the contemporary world (2013), which is considered the programmatic document of the pontificate, and the social encyclical Laudato si’. In care of our common home (2015). Problems such as: indifference, loneliness, rejection, shallowness of relationships, consumerist lifestyle, exploitation of the poor, mistreatment of animals, are their points of convergence. On the other hand, egoism, consumerism, lack of sensitivity and empathy are factors that make a person unhappy and deprived of meaning in life. Is there any hope? Both authors answer that there is. The Swedish director sees it in the joy of small things and in building relationships with other people, while the Head of the Catholic Church emphasizes faith in man, who can always change his life, in which his Creator will help him.
