The 5th edition of the scientific conference "On the Understanding of Law and Jurisprudence", dedicated to the memory of Professor Stanisław Czepita, took place in Szczecin on 28-29 November 2024. This year's theme, "The Integration of Polish Concepts of Legal Interpretation", was examined in a roundtable discussion format, fostering an intellectual exchange that extended beyond the mere presentation of individual papers. The debate, moderated by Dr hab. Olgierd Bogucki, Professor at the University of Szczecin, sought to explore the feasibility of harmonising various theoretical approaches to legal interpretation and to identify potential avenues for further scholarly inquiry. The panel featured distinguished academics: Professor Marek Smolak (Adam Mickiewicz University), Professor Marek Zirk-Sadowski (University of Łódź), Professor Andrzej Bator (University of Wrocław), Professor Sylwia Wojtczak (University of Łódź), and Professor Adam Sulikowski (University of Wrocław). The discussion addressed the possibility of reconciling Poland’s major interpretative doctrines, namely the clarificatory and derivational concepts, as well as broader issues concerning the relationship between legal theory and judicial practice, the limits of interpretation, and the phenomenon of judicial activism. On the preceding day, 28 November 2024, the 2nd Young Scholars’ Conference on the Understanding of Law and Jurisprudence, also held in honour of Professor Stanisław Czepita, was organised by the LexUS Scientific Association. Young researchers, including students, doctoral candidates, and emerging academics, delivered presentations examining legal interpretation from both theoretical and doctrinal perspectives. Topics included dispersed constitutional review, interpretative judgments, the boundaries of state intervention in individual rights, and the application of linguistic tools in legal analysis. The conference provided an esteemed forum for academic dialogue and the refinement of research competencies among young scholars.
