Abstract

In general, very little attention is paid to interpreting in industrial production in translatology, although this activity places particular demands on interpreting skills. Analysis of the situational conditions reveals high subjective and objective stress factors that affect interpreting performance. The communicative situation in technical interpreting includes not only the speaker, the interpreter and the interpreter’s superior, but also the interpreted object, which provides the interpreter with visual support and, as it is highly visual, also reduces the cognitive load. A command of the technical languages is the main prerequisite for competent and accurate specialised communication, although the client usually does not provide any documents for the preparation of an interpreting assignment in the production. Furthermore, in Slovak production plants with a German parent company, which form the main subject of the study, German-Slovak professionalisms are used, which the interpreters incorporate into their interlingual mediation.
