Abstract

The article presents functional and semantic characteristics of 46 periphrases of fl oristic names excerpted from the poetry of Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska. The study herein aims to determine the literary and cultural motives of described periphrases. The poetess used this method of poetic expression as she wanted to emphasize the uniqueness of Polish fl ora or to illustrate the appearance of exotic plants.
