Abstract

The article presents a comparative analysis of three populist parties in Central and Eastern Europe: Germany’s AfD, Poland’s Confederation, and Slovakia’s SMER. It focuses on their positions on the EU, migration, social policy, the war in Ukraine, and national identity. The hypothesis assumes that, despite ideological and national differences, these parties share features such as anti-elitism, Euroscepticism, and appeals to sovereignty. The study applies qualitative content analysis and a comparative method. The findings show that all three parties used anti-elitist rhetoric and invoked the “will of the people”, although they differed in focus. AfD stressed national identity and migration criticism, Confederation emphasizes economic freedom and limiting the state’s role, while SMER highlightes social justice and rejected military involvement in Ukraine.
