Abstract

In 2010 professor Michał Głowiński, one of the biggest Polish literary scholars, published a large volume of his memoirs. As a result, the editor of “Telewizyjne Wiadomości Literackie” (TVP 2) [Television Literary News], professor Stanisław Bereś, conducted a two-hour television interview with him. Only a shortened version – not longer than twenty minutes – was broadcast. Therefore, in order not to waste such a precious content, initially, the original version was put on an educational platform of “Telewizja Literacka” [ Literary Television], and after its shut-down, moved to YouTube, where it has been available ever since. Moreover, with the intention of celebrating the scholar’s eightieth birthday, a transcript of that recording was made, which later was prepared for printing in this commemorative book/publication. The process of transforming a live conversation into a text is so complex and complicated, or even mysterious in many aspects/phases, that the analysis of this process is still in its infancy. It is simply a kind of translation, considered by scholars an intralingual one. This printed talk with professor Głowiński is an excellent reason to show the key mechanisms of this process (transcription, linguistic editing of the text, selection, composition, authorization) because the television recording of this interview is still available. Therefore, this text is a comment about the recording, linguistic work of both the interviewer and the interviewee, but also a form of homage to the great Polish philologist.
