Abstract

The text analyzes the functions of drugs in selected women's literature, using examples from the works of Emily Hahn (1905-1997) and Anna Kavan (1901-1968). Drugs are both a medium and a literary theme that allows for the inclusion of new voices and perspectives in the history of literature. Through comparative analysis, I attempt to demonstrate the significant influence that drugs have on women's writing, especially in the context of emancipation. Opium and heroin, through the authors' experiences, are transferred into the narrative and expand the previously known genre framework of (auto)biographical literature
