Abstract

This paper refers to the evaluation research conducted within the field of education and new competencies required for teachers/ educationalists that have emerged as a result of introducing the notion of evaluation into Polish schools. Based on extensive achievements of the evaluation research, it is attempted in the paper to discover research approaches which can create interesting possibilities for the application of evaluation in Polish education. Being aware of the pitfalls of bureaucratic evaluation, the author definitely favours self-evaluation that can, in her opinion, become an important tool when introducing changes into Polish schools. In its concluding section, the article analyzes the possibilities for establishing/ using educational space for self-evaluation within the framework of university level education of teachers and educationalists, based on many years’ experience in working with students of education.
