Abstract

This article is an analysis of the academic work of Rev. Prof. Romuald Rak, who focused on the role and evolution of music in the liturgy of the Church. The author presents the history of sacred music, from its synagogue origins to the reforms introduced by the Second Vatican Council. The professor's critical view of beat music and modern trends, which in his opinion may disrupt the prayerful nature of celebrations, is presented. An important element of the study is the theological and pastoral research on the passivity of the faithful and the state of music education among the clergy and organists. Rak postulated that music should always serve the word, promoting deeper and more conscious participation in the Eucharist. The whole study emphasizes the need for systematic formation and care for the high artistic quality of singing in parishes.
