Abstract

The article concerns the ways of commemorating Dietrich Bonhoeffer, an evangelical priest who opposed the inhuman system of the Third Reich. Two works by Jane H. Pejsa, an American publicist and regional historian, who presented the image of Bonhoeffer in her works, are cited for analysis and interpretation. In the first study, which concerned the Pomeranian aristocrat Ruth von Kleist-Tychow, the pastor is a secondary character. Its role is to support ideological and religious decisions that were significant in the German conservative environment in which the activist operated. In the Pejsa’s second work, which is a record of a journey in Bonhoeffer's footsteps in Pomerania, the author approaches the subject much more deeply. She shows the inspiring role of the pastor in the ecumenical approach to the reality of contemporary Pomerania.
