Abstract

This article is an attempt to determine the reasons for the popularity of informal channels of distribution of cultural goods, for example films and TV programs. The paper demonstrates a hypothesis that factors decreasing popularity of formal channels are weak impact of institutions of copyright to the consumers of cultural goods and existing of barriers in access to those channels. The goal of research carried out in the article is to determine the level of informal channels substitution as compared to formal one. The high level of substitution testified that the low impact of copyright and relatively high barriers of access to formal channels, implicate that informal channels are logical source of cultural goods.
