The constructivist approach in religious education in the Czech Republic

Abstract

The article presents the basic concepts of constructivism in pedagogy and its dominant application in contemporary schools in the Czech Republic. The key points are applied and discussed from the perspective of religious education and the process of guiding children in the faith. It reflects on the didactic possibilities of this approach, especially with regard to the development of critical thinking, the connection of concepts and lived experience of a person and a different approach to understanding theological truths. It also critically deals with possible risks for religious pedagogues and catechists.
