Abstract

The article attempts to apply the theory of external effects to explain the reasons for film studios to ignore certain situations of unauthorized copying of films via the Internet. The purpose of this article is to show the situation when the external effects caused by unauthorized copying will be beneficial (positive) for the copyright holder. The article considers three commonly occurring situations that create channels of unauthorized copying and their impact on the profitability of film production. The analyzed situations are model, while the considerations are conducted in the neoclassical paradigm. The article is concept, preparing the field to further considerations in neo-institutional way.
