Abstract

The aim of this study is to show how individual groups of buyers can take over the network benefits within the Multi-Sided Platform. The author also indicates how compa- nies which perform as Multi-Sided Platforms can protect themselves against opportunism of buyers. Basing on the subject literature and available publications, the impact, of change in the distribution of network benefits, on the company’s situation is analyzed. Next, the author presents the case of Allegro.pl, where he indicates the reason for conducting off-platform transactions and remedies taken by the company. The conclusions from the study concern the proper design and monitoring of Multi-Sided Platforms as well as the use of price, tech- nological or institutional tools to reduce opportunistic behavior.
