Abstract

The objective of the paper is to identify trends in remittances flows to developing countries in the years 1990–2016. First, migrants’ remittances to developing countries were analyzed in relation to other financial flows – foreign direct investment and official development assistance. Then the geographical structure of the remittances and the changes that have occurred in it were analyzed. Studies show that migrants’ remittances have grown steadily. Their role in the flow of capital to developing countries, as well as foreign direct investment, has increased, while the importance of official development assistance has declined. In addition, the importance of migrants’ remittances in the economies of countries, especially low-income, has increased, and they have become responsible for an increasing proportion of GDP. In the geographical structure of migrants’ remittances increased participation of developing countries at the expense of developed countries. The study uses selected statistical methods of dynamics and phenomena analysis methods and methods of comparative analysis, as well as ranking method. Statistical data from the World Bank and OECD databases were used.
