Abstract

The paper attempts to analyze how the development of road investments in the communes of Kórnik and Mosina affected the number of road accidents involving wild animals, the analysis was based on statistical data collected by the Police Headquarters. The obtained traffic information was indexed using GIS tools. Created thematic layers were classified on the basis of available literature and serve a number of further comparative analyzes. Based on the study, it has been determined that the main factor affecting the number of wildlife events is the traffic density and the fragmentation of the landscape. Development of road infrastructure Highways of communication routes (express roads and motorways) should be a natural barrier for the animals, and events on such trails should be incidental. Analysis of the collected material has shown that the development of road infrastructure has not eliminated a collision involving animals.
